Similar to plates, tubes, bars, pipes, and rods, coil also are made up of various metals and alloys. One such type of product is Stainless Steel 316 Coil that work in severe conditions such as seawater. These coil offer better resistance to corrosion as compared to other stainless steel due to the addition of chromium and molybdenum. These SS 316 coils display excellent welding properties as they resist carbide precipitation during welding. They are also known as marine grade stainless steel coils due to their high resistance against the chlorinated solution. 316 Stainless steel strip displays good strength due to the high content of molybdenum along with high creep at elevated temperatures.
ASTM A240 Type 316 Slitting Coil is also resistant to potable water with limited chlorides at ambient temperature. They also avoid intergranular corrosion. Though this steel grade is known as marine grade they are not resistant to warm water. Due to this reason in many marine environments 316 stainless steel coil stock display surface corrosion that can be identified as brown stains. It is mainly because of the crevice and rough surface finish. In case of intermittent use, these 1.4401 coils can be used up to temperature 870 degrees C, and in case of continuous service, they can be used up to 925 degrees C.
ss316 coil manufacturers recommend their use in chemical transportation, boat fitting, laboratory bench fitting, petrochemical equipment as so on. They can be annealed to avoid decay and can be easily rolled. UNS S31600 Stainless steel thin strips are also used in architectural trim, molding, sink, automotive industry, and aerospace structure. ASTM A240 TP 316 coil sheet has a melting point of 1400 degrees C.
